This little guy appears in my sketchbooks a few times around 2011, when I was getting very into 2001: A Space Odyssey. The influence of the iconic red spacesuit is pretty clear. Can’t say where the periscope apparatus came from or what it sees that we can't.

Over a decade passed between these loose doodles and the finished piece above. I've found that if you keep coming back to an old idea over and over, it doesn’t mean you’re running out of new ideas — it means you’re fighting a good one that won't go down easy. –A∙
